What annoys me is that Séguin went on the record talking on and on about respecting Verdi and insisting on the second intermission, but then employing, more or less, the standard TRAVIATA cuts and compressions! We never cut Wagner or Puccini, so why cut Verdi? true, they added a bit to “Gran dio morir” in the last act and Violetta sang both verses of “Addio del passato,” and we got one verse each of the two cabalettas, but where were the second verses to the cabalettas? Where was the second verse of Violetta’s “An, fors’ e lui”? Why beg for respect for Verdi while you butcher his opera??
