Just want to say most or all of the cuts in TRAVIATA have been standard, or at least common, for probably more than 150 years. So for what it's worth, lots of people over the years have considered the cut music expendable for one reason or another -- for example, the second verses of both "Ah, forse e lui" and Alfredo's cabaletta, which just make those sections too long in terms of the amount of time spent on those emotional moments in the scope of the music drama as a whole. I haven't done the research: Do we know if Verdi vehemently objected to these cuts, or not really?
