DANIEL’S HUSBAND, the acclaimed new play by Michael McKeever, directed by Joe Brancato, will end its commercial Off-Broadway run at the Westside Theatre (407 West 43 St.) on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 7pm. It will have played 13 previews and 73 performances.
About DANIEL’S HUSBAND, producer Ted Snowdon states, “I am extremely proud of this show and everyone involved that made it the emotional and artistic success that it is. We knew when we began our commercial transfer that it would be a challenge to have this beautifully written, well-made play stand out in this busy season. I take pride in knowing that this show deeply affected audiences, and provoked them to think, discuss the play, and both laugh and cry. DANIEL’S HUSBAND is a perfect example of why we go to the theatre – to be engaged, and even changed. I am truly honored in what we accomplished with Michael McKeever’s play, under the perfectly balanced direction of Joe Brancato and the amazing performances by our cast. Although we end this run, our third in three years, I expect big things for Daniel’s Husband in future productions around the country.”
DANIEL’S HUSBAND is Mr. McKeever’s contemporary American play about two men – the personification of the perfect couple – who happen to have conflicting views of relationships. A turn of events forces them to face the consequences of their differences, and they learn that they are living in a world where fundamental rights aren’t always so fundamental.
DANIEL’S HUSBAND enjoyed considerable success beginning at Penguin Rep, followed by an acclaimed run at Primary Stages where it was praised as “Breezy to devastating, McKeever performs an impressive tightwire act, and his cast is deft with every turn.” Michael Musto; “A tear-jerker and a heart-yanker, One of the New York Times Plays to See This Fall.” New York Times; “The tearjerker will make you yearn for that one special person. Compelling. By the time the curtain closes, I guarantee you’ll have shed many tears.” Out.com; “Such a thoughtful, intelligent play, filled with sensitivity and insight.” Rex Reed; “An excellent ensemble. you feel deeply for these characters!” Time Out New York; “Insightful and heart-rending.” Gay City News; “Highly-charged, deeply emotional” iWorld Travel; “A first-rate cast. A gripping, searing drama for our times.” Gay USA; “Compelling. Daniel’s Husband is a universal look at love, commitment, marriage and family Front Row Center; “Honest and sincere. Daniel’s Husband worth the trip.” Theatre Pizzazz; “Beautiful and powerful. A profound look at love and commitment” The Daily Beast; “Devastatingly intense. Complex and engaging” Front Mezz Junkies
This production marks the cast’s third time in the roles they created, including Matthew Montelongo (Broadway’s A View From The Bridge. Off-Broadway’s God’s Ear), Anna Holbrook (TV: Emmy Award Winner For “Another World”, “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Ryan Spahn (Vineyard Theatre’s Gloria, Primary Stages’ Exit Strategy), Leland Wheeler (Films: We Need To Talk About Kevin, 1/1) and Lou Liberatore (Tony nominated for Broadway’s Burn This).
