|"I think you're in the minority on that one. Most people don't even know that Great Comet happened, and of those who do, it seems very few actually blame her for the show's closing, which is akin to blaming The Wales Art Review for shutting down the Wales Theater Awards."
Oh, I honestly don't think I'm in the minority on this one. Although I have not taken a poll, I strongly disagree that "it seems very few actually blame" Erivo for the closing of THE GREAT COMET. On the contrary, from what I have read and heard, it seems that a great many people rightly blame her and Okieriete Onaodowan for the fact that the show closed at least several weeks before it would have otherwise. Still, I'm not surprised that you have come to the defense of one of the most egregious and frightening examples of misguided social activism in recent show business history.
Ironically, Erivo's choice to become vocal about and inject herself into the GREAT COMET situation has come back to haunt her in terms of the controversy over her casting as Harriet Tubman in a new film about that historical figure (because Erivo is not American). So I think her career has already begun to suffer to that extent.
