What's your source for the "Harriet" controversy being "because of her GREAT COMET commentary in particular and her reactionary, tone-deaf form of social activism in general"? Is that purely your own desire, or is there a basis for this reading?

Everything that I've read or heard - and as you also acknowledge - was because she A) isn't American, and B) is of Nigerian descent, which some people regard as being too posh and well-off to allow her to play a slave. To me, that's a step too far, but I have empathy for the critique.

I get that you don't like her, but you're just tossing out unfounded accusations to try and fit your belief that her career is suffering, even while all signs point to her star being on the rise. If she was indeed toxic, she would have lost the part - much bigger stars have lost higher profile jobs (just this week, Kevin Hart lost the Oscars) - so it's hard to give that accusation credence without some sort of external support. If she was too controversial, I don't know that she would be getting the highly positive press coverage she's getting, complete with eager talk of her still being in line to be the youngest EGOT.

I agree with you that "some" audience members will stay away, because you provide confirmation of that. But while people like yourself might stay away from her work in protest of how she has used her platform, I don't know if that demographic is so large that it will make a difference. We've long since proven that none of the regular posters on this board are representative of a mass audience, and even on this board, the extreme anti-Erivo voice is as loud as the extreme pro-Erivo voice. Some people will stay away, but I suspect they're a subset of a subset.

But I guess we'll know more a few years from now.
