ABOUT MICHAEL BRECKER:
As a result of his stylistic and harmonic innovations, 15-time Grammy winner Michael Brecker is widely regarded as one of the most eminent saxophonists of the last 40 years, and has been hailed by The New York Times as "among the most influential musicians in jazz since the 1960s." Brecker recorded and performed with a Who's Who of jazz and pop giants spanning Charles Mingus, Chet Baker, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea Parliament-Funkadelic, Bruce Springsteen, Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Charlie Haden, McCoy Tyner, Pat Metheny, Frank Zappa, James Taylor, and Paul Simon, to name but a few. In 2005, Brecker was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). In need of a bone marrow transplant, the International Bone Marrow Registry was searched for a match. Though tens of thousands of people worldwide registered in an effort to save Brecker's life, a matching donor was not found and on January 13, 2007, Brecker died at age 57.
