|This "Oklahoma" does away - almost - entirely with production numbers. I loved this show (except for the ludicrous ending), but it's much closer to the introspective character study of a "Band's Visit" than the larger pizazz of a more traditional Lincoln Center-esque R&H production.
It doesn't spoil things to say that most musical numbers in "Oklahoma" are staged as minimally as possible - the book scenes flow seamlessly into the musical numbers, and there is a muted simplicity (again, in a good way) that defines Fish's perspective.
But no, it doesn't seem like something your relative would like.
