In the review, Hurst says: " Later, in the trial, Roth puts him (Robinson) in a brown suit which, as a man who picks cotton for a living, he would never own. He should be in jeans or overalls."

Sadly, this inane comment reflects Hurst's ignorance of what actually is involved in trying a criminal case. Who says that Robinson owned the suit he was wearing? Oft times criminal defendants do not own suits or any clothing that would not appear to be disrespectful to the jury. It is not unusual for a good (actually, a competent) defense attorney to arrange suitable clothing for his or her client to wear, either by buying or renting such clothing or by arranging it to be borrowed. So if Finch believed that having Robinson appear in court in a suit, brown or otherwise, he would have arranged for him to have one to wear. If he thought that Robinson would have been better off coming to court in overalls or jeans, that's what he'd have been wearing at trial.
