A suit for Tom at the trial is an absurd choice and shows no understanding of the rules of Jim Crow in the 1930s, when the story takes place. A man of Robinson's station would be seen as "uppity" and worse if he wore anything fancier than clean overalls and a clean shirt into the courtroom. If Atticus put him in a suit, it would doom him with the all-white jury of the time. But this story long since left the realm of reality and has entered our national myth-set.

I'd like to take a moment to give a shoutout to the reviewer AND the proofreader, both of whom I'm guessing worked for low or no pay to bring us this review. I thought it was very well detailed and well argued. Those who think they can write a better review should hop to it.
