I love the LIL ABNER score. But it has always struck me as a score where the lyrics are ahead of the music. The music is nice, but the lyrics are alternately sharp, or sweet or funny. The lyrics were sharp enough so that they were watered down for the movie(The country's in the very Best of hands.)....I've never read the book and lyrics for REDHEAD(,Is it available for 'home reading'?) but I've only listened to the cast album at most 3 times; I'll give it another try this week, but I don't think that the score is top drawer, in spite of have Dorothy Fields as the lyric writer. and who is the new Gwen Verdon to play the lead?
