seems to me there are still a lot of "professional" critics left. the issue is that they are paid less or not at all. Do you think, e.g., Charles Isherwood is less professional because he is reviewing without the largesse of the Times?
also disagree that there are not a lot of "major outlets" any more. I think there are not a lot of major print outlets, but many of those were not read very much anyway. Many more people read reviews on, e.g., the Daily Beast than ever read them in the Post.
agree that reviews on this site are legit. (people love to call things they don't like illegitimate, but that extends well beyond reviews.
