Replacements like Vanessa Williams in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Reba McEntire in Annie Get Your Gun, and Fantasia in The Color Purple come to mind.
Some common elements were that are all stars in their own right and they surprised with how magnetic they were on stage. Two of the three roles were replacements for Tony-winning performances. |
