| Have to agree with you. Lewis made it into more of a star turn but that upset the balances of the story. Joe Hardy and Lola are our hero and heroine, Mr. Applegate is a comic supporting part. Sure it is possible he can get equal billing, although Ray Walston most certainly did not, but his is not the star role. When Jerry Lewis played it it sort of became like the poster for the original My Fair Lady, Applegate the master puppeteer for Joe and Lola. He was the flashiest Devil I've seen in the show but that is not what the show calls for, IMO. |
