| I am so surprised to hear this reaction to Jerry Lewis's Applegate, as I felt kind of the opposite, and I think some of the reviews at the time accorded with my opinion -- that he actually underplayed the role for the most part, with only a very few moments where he threw in some of his famous shtick, like in that scene where Applegate masquerades as the town inspector (or whatever that role is). |
