| I will chime in with Michael re Word of Mouth. And its definitely not a tourist show, in the broadly meant sense of that word - one where everyday tourists flock. Michael Urie is very good - but - and a big but - what made the play so magical originally was Harvey Fierstein - who made the character indelible as an overweight schlub with that gravelly voice. Its hard to see Michael Urie as a guy who cant get a date, despite the weird vocal gymnastics he does. So that level of an event - a 4 hour play with this outlandish bigger than life guy as the lead is gone. Jack di Falco as teh 16 year old is a but hard to take in this production - definitely looks & acts like a 'pick up/ewnt boy' rather than a 'son'. Its all fine and well done - but it doesnt really add up to that much , IMHO. |
