| "My Wish" which the Fred Gaily character sings in "Here's Love" is a rather nice song and stood out as having a nice melody. The opening number sounds on the recording like it goes on long, though perhaps the staging justified it? Otherwise, it doesn't sound like a very interesting score, besides the inclusion of the already well-known "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas". The show did run almost a year though, and had the original "Miracle on 34th Street" star John Payne, as well as Richard Kiley as replacements for Gaily. I was talking recently with a lady who had been in the chorus of the show who told me that when Richard Kiley was in the show he told her that he had been offered some show about Don Quixote, and he was wondering whether he should take it. :) Also, Fred Gwynne had to pay off a lot of money to the producer, who for some reason gave him a hard time, to get out of his contract since he was offered "The Munsters". |
