| I received a broadway.com gift certificate as a present. Right away I went on line to buy tickets for My Fair Lady and the "service charge" was $36 per ticket. I didn't complete the transaction. Is this their usual rate? Is it in line with other ticket sellers? Is there anything I can do with this gift certificate without losing half of it to service charges? Thanks. db |

| I just did a simple check In January they have some OK Orchestra tix for HAMILTON @ $350, with an $86 per ticket service charge - thats a 25% upcharge. 2 PHANTOM tix with Face Value cost of $145 each have a $55.10 service charge each. A 38% upcharge. The house for that performance of PHANTOM is about 40% sold. You can get better seats for $145, with a service charge/handling charge of $13.25 each on Telecharge. A 9% upcharge, Or one could buy similar seats on Broadway Box for $89 + $11.75 service fee , a 13% up charge. (Theres also a TDF offer)\ but I know I could buy that Phantom Pair right now for $201.75 online, or $178 at the box office thry Broadway Box. Or for $316.50 thru Telecharge, or $290 at the box office. Or for $400.20 from Broadway.com Crooks. |

| ... if it's a gift certificate, they already have the money, no? The only thing you do by refusing to use it is increase their profit margin by following the very course of action they hope you'll take! | |

| Right. So I should pay exorbitant fees which decrease the value of any gift certificate. This year, i'm just resorting to reporting them to the dept. of consumer affairs. and posting on their twitter page. maybe prospective buyers will gt the message. | |

| So I should pay exorbitant fees which decrease the value of any gift certificate. Hey, do whatever you want. Just be aware that, from their perspective, you are absolutely increasing the value of that gift certificate... and a snippy tweet is unlikely to deter them. Last year the US had something like $45 billion in unused gift cards, which is why merchants absolutely LOVE them. |
