After seeing the KCH, gonna dig out my coupon and go see Lady CHER

So much Bway talent on the KCH stage tonight. I think I finally woke up from my Theatre blues.

Yes, Adam Lambert was wonderful, have always known that and even loved him with Queen in concert... but CHRIS JACKSON! He was the highlight of the show for me, he sang the HECK out of that song, and left me (and a few people they showed in the audience) in tears! Why no love for Chris here except for one tiny post under a Cher thread?

AGREED. His vocals gave me instant chills.

I've been lucky to see HAMILTON with three different casts (the original, Chicago, London), and each successive one has made me appreciate what an under-heralded wonder Christopher Jackson is. This guy has a vocal quality that's impossible to match, and hearing him sing during the Kennedy Center Honors gave me the same goosebump chills that I first got when I saw him perform on Broadway.

He's a multi-talented guy, writing and producing his own music as well, but i have to wonder if he'd prefer to be performing in another Broadway cast or simply doing his own thing.

I have a neurological disorder; my daughter has two; and we have kids on the spectrum in our extended family. I saw this great article on the Jacksons in the American Academy of Neurology's Brain and Life magazine. One more reason to admire this talented man.

Thank you, GMB! For a while there, I thought I was the only one! I have also been lucky enough to see three HAMILTON casts, and I agree that he is an unheralded wonder. I heard some interview with the HAMILTON creative team way back in the beginning, and they asked Alex Lacamoire about his favorite moment of the show, and I'm paraphrasing here, but he said something like 'hearing Christopher Jackson sing.'

Did Caroline Kennedy put in an appearance?

I have only sped through most of the show to see the Cher segment, but I had the impression Ms. Kennedy did not speak from the stage. Unusual, no?

No she didn't speak. It was different this year in that they had a host (Gloria Estefan) do the whole show.

I was surprised that a number from "The Cher Show" wasn't included.

It would have been good publicity. Could Cher have nixed it? Did the Broadway show include a commercial on the telecast -- as did "Lear," with its prominent mention of Philip Glass's musical contribution? Speaking of which: I was sorry there wasn't more biographical information about Glass, including his years with Mabou Mines. And his continuing as a plumber and cab driver after becoming a composer. I had hoped they'd mention the person who got in his cab after the opening of "Einstein on the Beach" at the Met and, upon seeing his name on his license, remarked: "Young man, do you know you have the same name as a famous composer?

I would think that the Cher show schedule at the time would not have permitted the trip down to Washington.

There was a TV commercial for Cher in the pre-prime time (i.e., 7:59PM) slot in New York. Rudin went batshit crazy with commercials for his shows during the broadcast-Mockingbird, Lear, and Gary (maybe others too, but if so I missed them).

Indeed. The Cher Show opened the day AFTER the Kennedy Center performance.

I am sure they would have offered a number from the show otherwise. Jeffrey Seller (producer of The Cher Show and Hamilton) was certainly there and frequently cut to during the Cher tribute.

In any event, that was quite a weekend for the lady herself!

Christopher Jackson was a shining moment and so glad the Hamilton team gave him a "moment" on the broadcast. For me he was the only reason to see Hamilton. Sorry, the original London cast was so much more revolutionary to watch.

Actually many knew about this once-Fiyero. Not I, ever, until last night. I was not a fan. And then...his earnest reinvention of the anthemic “Believe” as a personal meditation on loss was stunning. I dreaded him and he made the Cher segment for me. The man has grown as an artist.

. . . at about a minute and a half into the song? It was a truly stunning rendition of BELIEVE. I've watched it several times on YouTube since the airing of the show.

Besides making his Broadway debut as a replacement Fiyero years ago in ''Wicked,'' Adam Lambert had done a lotta theater before he hit it big at ''American Idol.'' At 21, he did a European tour of ''Hair,'' and the following year, played in ''Brigadoon,'' singing an angelic ''Come to Me, Bend to Me'' at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston. He also was in ''110 in the Shade'' at Pasadena Playhouse, starring Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley.

At the Kennedy Center Honors, Lambert's reinvention of Cher's dance hit ''Believe'' into a powerful and breathtakingly beautiful ballad, moved Cher to tears. She tweeted: ''Tried 2 write Feelings About Adam Lambert Singing Believe In Words, but Cant seem 2. When Your senses are Overwhelmed ...''

Short of doing his own concert, I wonder if there a show that could bring this Grammy-nominated pop star back to Broadway. Sure hope so!

I found Lambert so affected and over the top on American Idol and after but I agree his Believe was very good and sung with masterful restraint.

I didn't like him at all on American Idol, but I love his rendition (on YouTube) of "Come to Me, Bend to Me" (unfortunately his Scots accent comes and goes a bit) as well as his performance on the Kennedy Center Honors.

LiveNation announced a 23-city North American tour for QUEEN + Adam Lambert

In reply to: re: Adam Lambert: When he gave his regards to Broadway - WaymanWong 02:20 am EST 12/28/18

He's undeniably a theater kid, and always has been, but I have a feeling he makes more from a sold out stadium with QUEEN than he would make on Broadway. LiveNation just announced a 23-city North American tour for next year, and after the blowout success of the "Bohemian Rhapsody" film, I'm sure they're prepared to capitalize on the interest in Queen from a new, younger, ticket buying demographic who just discovered the music.

It's hard to imagine plugging Mr. Lambert into a show that's already out there; he deserves more than just a filler role in ROCK OF AGES or even another mounting of HEDWIG. His upper range is such a rare and haunting thing, equally moving in falsetto or a rock scream, and someone needs to write a role for him.

I know he's got the Queen world tours to keep him busy, but I'd like to see him back to his theater roots one day, before he's too old to cast. Was rumored to be Judas opposite John Legend in JCS Live, but that seemed to fall through. Perhaps lowering the score for Legend wouldn't have worked with his range. Shame, I think he would have killed that score in the original key.

Tonight's KCH--

Best Performance: Adam Lambert

Most Bungle-some: Kristin Chenoweth doing what comes naturally; Kristen Chenoweth.

Coolest Sighting: Nancy Pelosi (seated next to Cher)

Frequent, Awkward Camera Shots: The creative guys from Hamilton, corralled in their section, either man-spreading or trying to look enthusiastic.

Things that make you go hmmmm moment: CHER presenter Whoopi Goldberg mentioning how Cher shared her entire life's journey with her sister Georganne. I guess I missed that fact (and sister) when i saw The Cher Show.

As always, a mixed-bag of a show.
