I guess the article tries not to be a slobbering puff piece but it ends of doing even more damage in that it characterizes Lin-Manuel Miranda's critics on the island as a bunch of whiny students. Miranda was naively or dutifully supporting a "bipartisan" austerity package aimed at the island crafted by Paul Ryan, for goodness sake. It also glosses over his father Luis Miranda's role as one of the Democratic Party's long time go-to fixer for the nyc Puerto Rican constituency (like nearly every piece I've read about Lin-Manuel Miranda that wants to paint him as a self-made nyc native son). I'm glad Miranda, the son, is now rethinking his earlier position on austerity and is pro-debt forgiveness. But the species of fawning article that this piece represents is how we get into trouble by not holding attractive, talented people in the arts or entertainment to the same level of scrutiny your average sadsack political hack would get battered with by the New York Times, should it decide it was necessary to cover them.
