I had only been considering Broadway replacements, not touring or London productions. I had no idea that Russ Brown had played Captain Brackett on tour.
Regarding West Side Story, you can add George Chakiris, who was playing Riff on stage in London when he was asked to audition for the role of Bernardo (I'm sure you know this) and, of course, went on to win an Oscar.
Though I don't think any of them actually outshone their original Broadway cast counterparts, several members of the cast of the film version of Jersey Boys, had been in replacement casts (Donnie Kehr, Erica Piccininni) on Broadway or had played their roles on tour (Erich Bergen). |
