| She was out of today’s matinee. Friends who went two other times during the run said she was out both times. As a Disney Channel star, she was the reason this run was sold out. If her absence is just because she’s an irresponsible actress or feels that this is beneath her, as an Emmy-winning actress, there were lots of disappointed kids in the audience. The alternate reason, of course, could be she wants to distance herself from this utter clunker of a musical. |

| Despite what she claims in this article, Cameron DID NOT share why she was missing performances. She would tweet vaguely stuff like "Taking care of my health" and then other tweets completely unrelated to her performances. Hopefully this young artists learns quickly that, to keep a fan base, she has to be upfront about why she's missing performances. People are shelling out hundreds of dollars because her name is attached. She at least owes fans an explanation at that moment, not one days later. Plus, I'm not sure I completely buy that the recent emergency room visit is the sole reason she missed these last performances. She's missed shows throughout the run. |

| Despite what she claims in this article, Cameron DID NOT share why she was missing performances. Direct quote: "while i was dancing, something happened with my upper spine and neck & the surrounding nerves, which is why i couldn't rotate my neck or back. i'll be fine, but i need to rest and not aggravate my injury for a few days. because of this, i have had to miss a few performances of #CluelessTheMusical". Hopefully this young artists learns quickly that, to keep a fan base, she has to be upfront about why she's missing performances. She was up front, but she doesn't owe you or anyone an explanation. Don't like it? Tough. |

| I ushered for the show on Wednesday night and she was in it. Maybe because I wasn’t feeling so well but the show actually cheered me up. I don’t think it is there yet but I found some of it funny and the audience around me seemed to like it. As for Dove Cameron, I have never seen her before but I liked her a lot and she can certainly sing! I thought she was engaging and well cast. But after seeing Will Connolly once again steal every scene he’s in as he did in the Stephen Trask show at the Atlantic, I wish he would be cast in another huge hit like Once. He deserves it. |

| "But after seeing Will Connolly once again steal every scene he’s in as he did in the Stephen Trask show at the Atlantic, I wish he would be cast in another huge hit like Once. He deserves it." I wish he had been re-cast in the central role in BE MORE CHILL, which he played originally at Two River Theater, for the recent Off-Broadway production that's transferring to Broadway later this season. |

| It's been almost four years since the production at Two River, so it's possible they felt Connolly had aged out of the part. | |

| "It's been almost four years since the production at Two River, so it's possible they felt Connolly had aged out of the part." That is possible, but Connolly is currently doing a credible job of playing a teenager in CLUELESS -- at least as credibly as most of the other actors in the show, and most actors playing teenagers in DEAR EVAN HANSEN and THE PROM and other shows that have teenage characters. For that matter, I don't think Connolly looks significantly older than Will Roland, who is now playing that part in BE MORE CHILL. Anyway, I have no idea why Connolly isn't still in BMC, so who knows, it might have been his own choice. |

| Yeah, there could be any number of reasons why he's not doing it. I would say that playing a teenager well in one show doesn't necessarily mean you're right for every teenage role across the board. Either way, he's very talented, and I hope to see him on stage often in the future. | |

| "Either way, he's very talented, and I hope to see him on stage often in the future." On this point, we definitely agree. Connolly did an incredible job of supplying the voice of the robot in AFTER THE BLAST at Lincoln Center Theater, and he is perfect in CLUELESS. |

| Yes, Dove Cameron could be ill as her twitter feed mentions anxiety disorder. I just wish that the theater company would actually say, "She is ill," in these circumstances, rather than shrug their shoulders when they see disappointed patrons entering the show. The company had no problem splattering Cameron's face all over media to sell tickets. A program notice of her absence isn't enough when she's the reason nearly everyone is there. If I were the star and were sick, I'd be angry with the theatre company's response. The audience members, myself included, assuming Cameron is being lazy, focused blame on her. Again, a simple, "She is ill" from the ticket takers would have made everyone feel better about the situation. But, because I don't know if Cameron has been intermittently ill (and nowadays there are so many ways to signal that through social media. Audra M, for example, posted about her illness when she missed performances of Porgy and Bess) or if she's just a lazy actress, I will think twice about purchasing expensive tickets to any show with Cameron in it. |

| I was at the Signature Center seeing FABULATION yesterday afternoon. There were lots of families with preteen and teen girls in the lobby. Some were probably fans of the film, as I noticed at least one girl dressed in Cher's signature yellow-plaid skirt. But I imagine many were there to see Dove (she was out). | |

| Her being physically ill and her having anxiety disorder are not necessarily related. And how do you know that "the audience members" decided she was lazy? Did you ask them? Was there an audience-wide discussion before the show began? The only person I've heard trying to disparage the actor is you. |

| i heard people say, "I can't believe she did this again," and "I guess I'll never watch her show again." Of course, these are likely temporary reactions to feeling disappointed. That said, in all my years of living, I've never heard anyone blaming an actor like that if he/she's sick. Again, all I ask (and the artist should ask) is that the theatre company just say the words "She is ill." It would stop all focused anger at once. |

| Maybe she could have muscled through, maybe not. She’s human. She called out sick to work - something most people have done at some point in their lives. I don’t get the vitriol people post about actors being out. | |

|
| That's the point--from the audience's point-of-view, she didn't "call out sick;" she didn't show. And she did that much of this short run. Perhaps live theatre isn't a great fit for this actress, particularly if she does have an anxiety disorder. She can certainly continue to earn millions in TV and movies without having to face a live audience. As for not getting vitriol that people post about actors being out-- the audience has been promised a certain actor and that promise is splashed on ad after ad and article after article. The audience lays out lots of money to see her, not particularly the show she's in. How do you expect people to react when the actor doesn't show and gives no reason for the absence? Sure, actors are human, but so are audience members. |

| I'm not saying this is true in this case, but one thing I find extremely annoying is when actors have scheduled absences but the producers won't let anybody know. And then won't give you a refund or exchange when you show up for that planned absence. I was glad to hear that LCT is giving refunds for Laura Benanti's absences in My Fair Lady. |
