I was led to believe that the Manhattan Theatre Club had "dibs" on it and it was rumored for the Friedman just a few years ago.
I remember seeing it at MTC's then-theater on the Upper East Side in the late 70s.. It featured the cast that went on to Broadway, save Irene Cara, who was replaced by Charlaine Woodard.
