I think this solves a discussion I was having with a friend. She insisted that the original “Merrily” had Frank singing “Not a Day Goes By.” I, however, saw the original in previews and remember Beth sang that song near or at the end of Act One.
So, from what you say, we could both be right. Beth initially had the song but then, before opening, it was given to Frank. (PS: I loved Beth singing it.)
