TDF: what gives? Two months after the site redesign and still no fixes to major glitches?
Posted by: wizrdofoz27 11:07 am EST 01/05/19

I'd rather risk it on rush tickets or pay the fees for Broadway Box or TodayTix discounts than wade through this mess only to pay $50+ for a TDF Broadway ticket.
A list of grievances:
--shows listed for days on end with no tickets available
--having to click through separate dates repeatedly only to be told no tickets are available
It's been over two months since the site redesign with absolutely no updates or emails about when these issues will be fixed. Do they think people will just not notice?

Maybe I'm the only one planning to cancel my membership, up in the spring, if these issues are not fully resolved. I guess they figure others will have to deal with it.

The main problem is that the old TDF site was BETTER

They didn't add functionality with this "upgrade," they took it away. My order history still has nothing in it. And if a performance has no seats available, it shouldn't be listed. Period.

And no one in TDF management has reached out to members or even attempted to explain anything.

"Adding functionality" is not the sole reason websites need to be upgraded. Given that the site collects credit card information, improved security measures may have been an important motivation for making the change.

To be fair, the old site also listed dates that were no longer available, but you didn't know until you attempted to add them to your cart. It does seem like these unavailable dates do stay up longer now.

I share your frustration. In addition, I've found that the "Contact Us" email links don't really work and the system logs me out whenever I click on any of them. I have given an end-of-the-year contribution to TDF since I first became a member, but this year I passed.

Your "list" of grievances seems to me to be one issue, and I want it to be fixed too. It's annoying. But I think the other things that people complained about were fixed - most notably, maintaining your place as you go back and forth between lists and entries.
I think someone said this is a common theater software that has been adapted. When you go to a theater website to order tickets, you expect to see all performances - no date of the run would be removed from listings because it was sold out. The difficulty in removing dates may be built in. Which doesn't mean it can never be fixed.
TDF is a convenient way to get steep discounts for a lot of theater if you fit narrow eligibility requirements. When tickets are available, it still works. It's worth remembering that TDF is not an entitlement, it's a nonprofit intended to support the theater industry - customer service has never been their focus, and we are not their main constituents. "Don't call' used to be printed on materials they sent to members. I doubt threatening to quit is a useful tactic. My sense is that they're often trying to trim the membership - because they're not worried about making a profit...
I don't mind if people quit, either. More available tickets...;)

If they are trying to trim the membership,
they should focus on business executives
making 6 figures or more, doctors, lawyers, etc.
and get them off the list.

Do we know for a fact that these people are on TDF? In large numbers? And frequently using the service?

I just did a quick test to see how much trouble it would be to get tix to, say, King Kong... saw the list of dates as soon as I clicked on the show link, and when I picked one I was prompted to complete my purchase.

Is the problem perhaps simply trying to snag harder tickets? I imagine tix that show up for Ferryman will be snapped up more or less immediately, and that those results are likely to be more hit or miss. Perhaps they just need to tweak the code so that those shows disappear from the listings more quickly after all tickets are purchased. I'm not prepared to ditch my membership over it, though.

I am right with you. I am planning to give up my membership because the stupidity of the new site is too frustrating and time consuming. My sanity is worth more than wading through two weeks of dates and finding none of them with tickets - in fact, if I come across one that says no tickets available, I just stop looking at that show and go back to the list. This is something that has been reported to them by many, many members and there has been nothing done about it. The least they could do is explain why they don't care that they are frustrating members and losing them. Whoever made the decision to go to this new website should leave the organization because they don't have a clue what they are doing.

I would love the new website if it worked properly.

I was willing to be very patient when it first changed, but it's been months now and it's simply not acceptable to keep shows up for days that don't have tickets available. It makes the site cluttered and frustrating to use. I think it's even more frustrating because it seems like it should be an easy fix.

I too will have to think about my renewal this year, especially since prices are going up and the seats I've had of late are getting much worse.
