| Unfocused and tedious, BLUE RIDGE depicts a self absorbed woman who yet cannot, does not know herself. She's the kind of person who used to be called a busybody and of course she's pretty alienating. Marin Ireland is, as usual, impeccable, but the play strands her and the other fine actors. It drags along with no clear intention until we realize what we've known all along, that rage is one of the sequelae of early childhood trauma which, in this context, is no less mundane for being true. The play is sincere and yet it seems purposeless. Despite the lively--and broadly accented--camaraderie of its characters, it's entirely flat. |
