Do theater Parties have the influence they used to?

Flipping thru some book lyrics collection. I found several mentions of Theater Parties keeping a show alive. Also that plays would sometimes audition for theater ladies, who could make or break a show, simply by booking them for their benefit parties. Is this still the Case? Enquiring minds want to know.

Theatre party agents have had a rough time in today’s market. Many hot shows no longer offer discounts for groups and they no longer get advance booking priorities that were common place. School groups still fill low priced seats at Wicked and Disney shows and most probably To Kill a Mockingbird. The practice of buying out large blocks for theatre benefits has largely disappeared.

A lot of shows even at discounted prices have become pretty expensive for members of theater parties who traditionally went on a fairly consistent (if not monthly) basis to see shows. I think for the remaining ones it's become more of a once in a while thing nowadays.
