| As you may have heard, GATZ, the enactment of the entire novel of The Great Gatsby, is returning. What are people's thoughts about the show? Is it worth the 8-hour time investment? I read The Great Gatsby in high school and saw the recent movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, but I would say I'm more of a casual fan of the work than it being one of my favorites. | |

| I didn't get the point of reading it and partially acting it. For me it was all over the place and I never connected with it as I have reading it myself. | |

| I saw the pre-dinner part at the Public....the seats were so uncomfortable that my butt didn't recover before the run ended, so I didn't see the second half. I'm thinking of trying again. I mean, the Skirball seats can't be worse than those cheap conference room chairs that the Public used to have in the Martinson, right? |

| The seats are comfortable at the Skirball but I think it's not a great space for theater, it's basically a multi-purpose auditorium for lectures, graduations, film screenings, concerts, etc. | |

| well I am devoted to the book but I went with someone who also read it in school and that was it, and we both loved it. It seems impossible that it will hold up and sustain itself, but somehow it does. Oh and remember that the 8 hours (it's actually a bit more as I recall) includes 2 intermissions not counting the dinner break, so actually roughly an hour and a half less of sitting (though I should mention also that the first act runs over 2 hours nonstop). Go. You only live once. | |

| I saw it on the West End and it got completely lost in that space - the most expensive nap I ever took. I can imagine it being more immediate in a smaller venue, but I still think it isn't worth the eight hours. |

| Unfortunately, this run of GATZ is at the Skirball Center, which swallows up intimate plays. I'd like to see the show, but I'm wary about going to see this mounting because of the venue. | |

| Is this really an "intimate play"? I didn't think of it that way. (I guess I think most characterizations of intimacy as a requirement are overblown but that's another thread.) | |

| I’m not particularly devoted to the book, but I definitely enjoyed this interpretation.... | |
