|Terrific performances by Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, and Nina Arianda is very funny as Coogan's (Stan Laurel's) wife. This is a marvelous film which might be overlooked since we're in the midst of award season, and one that lovers of Laurel and Hardy will really enjoy. It will also make them new fans. You could always tell that L&H really adored another another, as opposed to some other comic teams. The film is a bit off in some of the dates -- it makes it seem like they didn't do anything between 1937 and 1953, the latter year is when most of the film takes place, but it doesn't matter as much as the way the dynamics between the two characters is portrayed. Some of their stage routines as recreated by the two leads are fantastic. I was thinking that I recall Dick Van Dyke used to do a fine Laurel imitation and was in touch with the real Mr. Laurel. I'm happy that Mr. Van Dyke is still around to see this as well.|
