I’m not saying your friend doesn’t know what he’s talking about... but if that were the case, forgetting about theater tickets for the moment, then why are there all these daily headlines about various restaurants offering free meals to federal workers during the shutdown, and other services being offered for free?
Is he saying that there would actually be legal ramifications, or fined penalties, or other consequences, if furloughed workers were to take advantage of these offers? Is he implying that the businesses in question (whether a local diner or the Broadway show Beautiful) actually know it’s illegal and therefore it’s all a publicity stunt since they know no workers would ever actually take them up on their generous offers?
I’ve read stories online about TSA agents very strictly telling people they were not allowed to accept monetary gifts, but that they then were informed they were allowed to accept food brought to them, which they gratefully were presented with from travelers and gratefully consumed. These news stories are too ominpresent, with new ones coming every day, that I can’t help wondering if your friend, with all due respect, understands all the facts.
