Terrific article - thanks for linking.
But if I read you right, and read the article you attached,
then in fact, as long as the same offer is being made to all those affected by the shutdown, whether it's a free meal or a free theatre ticket, then it's AOK and perfectly legal.
Meaning that the original poster on this thread (who I'm assuming is referring to the free theatre-ticket offer for furloughed workers by "Beautiful" a few threads down) was in fact wrong, just as I and others here suspected.
