| I wonder if this is REALLY how Merman performed the song in the theatre (as the announcer says)...it's a pretty "straight" rendition of the number that you might expect out of context on a variety show. There's none of the pathos that I've seen from other Roses when performing the song in the context of the scene. Now, I wouldn't expect that kind of rendition of the song out of context since viewers unfamiliar with the show would likely be confused, except for what the announcer says prior to Merman's entrance and the differing opinions I've read about Merman's acting ability. |
