It's my favorite of his plays. I'm so glad that I got to see that original production three times, once with the original cast, and twice with the equally good and very different replacement cast (with Helen Stenborg, Charlotte Moore and Garrett Dillahunt replacing Frances Sternhagen, Zoe Caldwell and Fisher Stevens, while the wonderful Dominic Cuskern remained).

To me, Frankie and Johnny, although fine, is not on the level of Perfect Ganesh or Lips Together, Teeth Apart. I guess the F and J roles are appealing to well-known actors, but I'd think there are plenty of actresses who would love to play Katharine and Margaret in A Perfect Ganesh and who could give very fine performances.
