| No one, no one, made more effective use of triplets than Styne. (Those are half note triplets in that phrase that give it the syncopated feel.) I had a music teacher who had us in hysterics singing the phrase in the song People "are the LUCK-I-EST people in the world" as someone who couldn't read triplets (those are quarter note triplets there). I love the way triplets float and feel like the music and words exist outside of time. |
