| McNally wrote several other musical books aside from the ones hugoP mentioned above including "Anastasia," "Kiss of the Spider Woman," "The Full Monty" and "Catch Me If You Can." Thank you for mentioning Peter Stone who wrote the books for two Tony-winning Best Musicals -- "1776" and "Titanic" -- the outcomes of which everyone knew going in, and yet Stone made his libretti suspenseful, dramatic and fresh. Another noteworthy book writer was George Abbott, who had a remarkable string of (mostly) hits as book writer or co-writer starting with "On Your Toes" and continuing with "The Boys from Syracuse," "Too Many Girls," "Where's Charley?" "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," "The Pajama Game," "Damn Yankees," "New Girl in Town," "Fiorello!," "Tenderloin," "Flora the Red Menace," "Anya," and "Music Is." |
