| The original grit and world-weariness in Mimi as created by Rubin-Vega seems to be lessened in every iteration. The OBC provided an effortless verisimilitude that feels glossed over, now. I felt Mimi had a survivalist spine. Now she feels like a mere entitled hedonist. If anything, the post Oxy heroin explosion should make her portrait and portrayal less sentimental, less Hollywood. The story could use a jolt of the visibly strung out, and at every turn eschew heroin chic - a term once used to decry what my other post derides. |
