Okay...I will clarify what I meant again. Understudies, as a category of professional people employed on Broadway shows, go on SOMEWHERE every night in one or more or several Broadway theatres. They often go on with little or no warning, sometimes even mid-performance. This is not especially unusual or uncommon. It's their job.

I did not mean that every understudy goes on every night and I find it hard to believe that you could have thought that I did.

And, yes, there are cases, usually during Broadway previews, where understudies are NOT ready to go on at a moment's notice. Duly noted. But I think you would find that there are many other examples where understudies DID go on without much preparation. There was even a case in the West End not long ago where none of the Donnas in MAMMA MIA could go on one night and the call went out to a former understudy who was now working in another theatre understudying in 42ND STREET, who was able to rush over and play the role with very little notice given.

In any case, none of that has anything to do with how an understudy would function for a one night only television broadcast, as I've written several times in this thread.
