I don't usually like to tell people to see or not to see a show. but since you ask....
I saw I'm Not Running in October and was pretty underwhelmed. I am a fan of David Hare's work in general and have a dilettante's interest in British politics, so on paper it looked like it would appeal.,
Unlike James Graham's recent work- especially This House- Hare's play is more the personal story of the lead character and less about the institutions themselves. Like many of Hare's characters, she is a prickly and complicated woman and not someone it is easy to fall in love with. Theoretically that sounds like a good thing, but I found it hard to work up much interest in her for the two-and-a-half hour duration of the show.
If you don't mind spending the money- considerably less than what I spent to see it live probably!- I would say go and see for yourself. But I understand if you don't want to throw away $25 you might choose not to. |
