Sorry I didn't get around to writing this while the revival was still running. This was my first experience with the play, and I enjoyed it but did not love it. I don't know if Elaine May was having an off night; she was excellent but not incredible IMO. To me, there were two main problems with the production. One was the momentum-stopping montages between scenes. The other is that I didn't really feel like the play built over time as much as it could have. The memory loss got worse over time, but it seemed more a matter of degrees rather than a marked change. And she didn't seem to have any differences in her ability to take care of herself or anything like that. The end scenes could have taken place right after the first scenes IMO, and the family conversations about what to do could have been in almost any order. It felt like the same conversation about what to do over and over again.

Certainly, the change in degrees is reflective of real life (I have gone through this with family members myself), but I didn't feel it was the best from a dramatic point of view. What were other productions like?
