| It's killing me that I am not in town to see Benanti and may have to miss her performance entirely. I agree with you re: Ambrose and even more to the point, she had no idea how to command a musical comedy stage. She is a lovely actress, but lacking the experience in this specific genre that Benanti brings to it. Maybe Sher wanted a more serious version, I certainly felt at time that he did not want to indulge in anything as low as musical comedy (I referred to it as Meh Fair Lady). So the fact that a true musical comedy actress is now carrying the show makes me want to see this again to see how her level of performance blends with Sher's perhaps more "real" interpretation of the show. |
