A friend who worked on the recording tells me that, according to Tommy Krasker, what McGlinn recorded was the entr'acte, not the overture.
According to Suskin's The Sound of Broadway Music, Walter Paul was a staff orchestrator at Harms/Chappell. As one of those orchestrators, he would be asked (or, really, told) to be one of the uncredited orchestrators helping out when musicals were being prepared since the orchestrations were usually done very late in the process with way too little time (resulting in series of marathon overnight sessions for the orchestrators). |
