I don't think the issue is if people, or the academy think she is an Oscar worthy actress for her past work, or if they think she deserved it in the past - it's a matter of winning in those years against the other people nominated. She has 6 previous nominations, she's obviously been deserving in the past.
I am surprised she didn't win for Dangerous Liaisons though.
