So, when the Tonys were broadcast from a Broadway theatre, would the tech for the broadcast stop in time for the show performing in that theatre to do their matinee on Sunday afternoon, the day of the awards? Or would the show in the theatre hosting the awards having to cancel their performance that day?
I know there were a lot of years when this would not have been an issue, because the Nederlanders couldn't keep anything running in the Gershwin, a popular Tony venue, until the advent of WICKED.
But I remember that, in the season of SUNSET BLVD, the Tonys originated from the Minskoff Theatre and were done on the SUNSET BLVD set. And one year, in the mid-90's, they were at the Majestic (I know PHANTOM doesn't play on Sundays now, but am not certain it was always so). |
