| It's worth noting that Mosher originally wanted to cast both Deever siblings with actors of color, a choice the Miller estate rejected. Rebecca Miller said that having a romance between Chris (played by a white actor) and Ann (played by an actor of color) "was in danger of white-washing the racism of 1947 suburban Ohio." Yet both of the supporting couples in the play are cast as interracial couples. Wouldn't that also suggest a level of permissiveness that Rebecca Miller thought would be historically inaccurate? | |
