I understand full well the difference between colorblind and color-conscious casting. The choices here do not seem colorblind to me. Where did it say that in Mosher's conception, Ann and George would be the only characters of color? If Rebecca Miller's concern was that a romance between a white man and a non-white woman would whitewash the racism of 1940s suburbia, how does she justify having the town doctor and his wife being an interracial couple (Michael Hayden is white, Chinasa Ogbuagu is black)? If Lydia Lubey is played by a white actor and George Deever is played by a black actor, doesn't that introduce the subtext that their relationship ended because of their racial difference?
