When I first heard ads, I suppose, for THE BAND'S VISIT, I tried to learn whose voice had such a uniquely textured timbre, and I got REALLY curious about her.
This incredibly talented woman graduated from Northwestern and then paid a whole lot of dues, building up discipline from the craft of musical theatre. Singing, dancing, playing an instrument, building on that discipline, until she just got astonishingly lucky to score a role that showcases her uniquely beautiful talent so effortlessly.
But it's not effortless, of course. It's her discipline that impresses me most. This woman is cognizant of every single choice, gesture, and vocal inflection, and her performance on camera in close-up on the Tony Awards blew me away. I really, really hope that A BAND'S VISIT launches her into even greater opportunities, because my god she deserves it.
