You make are some interesting points. Of course, the entire "Loveland" sequence is the evolution of the structure of FOLLIES to move, or at least incorporate,realism, impressionism, expressionism, surrealism, and finally back to realism. I think there are certainly elements of minstrelsy in the choreography of "Lucy and Jessie". Elements of the language are certainly there. Minstrelsy is a significant element of American theatrical history, is it not.? BTW, have you considered the films HOLIDAY INN and WHITE CHRISTMAS in your project research and also Berlin's attitude about minstrelsy?
