The story tries to cover too many different relationships. None of them get a very satisfying arc, some minor characters are shoehorned in for little apparent reason, and the climactic reveal isn't given any resonance. It's as if someone took the outline for a full-season Netflix series and tried to condense it into a two-and-a-half-hour musical.
