I am little skeptical about this.
The fine print says profit sharing starts when a show recoups 110% not 100%. Not only will it take longer to hit 110% recoup with these new higher costs brought on by Equity, buy If I were a producer (and most shows usually start to wind down right after recoup anyway, think "The Bands Visit) I would just close my show at 109% recoup avoiding the additional profit share.
Additionally, according to their new numbers, it costs less to pay an actor a weekly off bway salary and without the benefit of profit sharing than it does to pay them a Tier 3 contract.
I could be totally wrong but it looks like today may be a win for regional theatre and off bway sheltering an avoidance of the new tier 3 contract. |
