I saw this out of curiosity of the theater space since I live a couple of doors down from the church where the theater is and had never been. Firstly what a huge huge stage they have, I wasn’t expecting that, I imagine many productions block off a good portion of it but Eco Village uses it all. It’s a great space overall and the staff were very friendly too.
The play reminded me of Blue Ridge which I hated and whilst it might be feint praise this is a better play I think, whilst BR was about troubled souls together at a halfway house this is about a collection of mostly troubled people at a new age style working retreat. I think many of the actors were better than the material especially Arianna Williams who carries the narrative of the play and I can really see her being a big star in the future, a really lovely performer. I can see what the author was going for but it’s not very sasistifying experience overall. A warning there is a very heavy long use of strobe for several minutes that was rather ridiculous I thought. And also one of those times where I cringed sometimes for the actors and the indignities they were called upon to perform. For example SPOILER if you want to see a fight where a giant black dildo is used as a weapon or a dominatrix recreating a scene of humiliating her clients then this is the place to come! |
