Good advice in general.

But - you also bring up a choice that I've been seeing more of as of late - cross-gender songs. I have varied feelings on the subject, but wonder what others feel?

In SRMHAYES' example above, I feel the choice of the Dow Jones song may be perfectly acceptable, given that most people don't know that show well, so that context of the song isn't so much in play. But, would a man singing (for example) something in an Ado Annie/Carrie track be viable, or would it veer on camp (even if not played that way)? Does such a choice send more of a message about the auditioner and less about their abilities? (Or does it cause us to infer things about the auditioner that are not always intentional?) Or are directors more welcoming of "outside of the box" song choices than I feel they used to be?
